Our children need to become comfortable, confident, and competent in the use of the English language. Employers expect employees to be able to compose written text accurately and comprehend various types of reading material. I strive to ensure that students complete my class with the foundation necessary to be successful in their future endeavors.

*PLEASE NOTE:  Each day that a student does not bring a book to read for silent reading they loose 10 point on the participation grade.

Currently, we are working on plot, elements of a short story, and editing skills.

Since eighth grade is an important transition into high school, your success depends on your decision to be prepared and ready from the very beginning of school.  The foundation of the terrific eighth grade curriculum consists of a continued focus on improving your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.  To help you on your journey, please pay attention to the information below.

The themes we will be focusing on are:  
The Hero’s Journey and How My Actions Affect Others

In this class, students will be:
        Reading and responding to literature
        Analyzing the elements of literature
        Participating in literature discussions
        Writing compositions based on themes from literature
        Learning and practicing editing skills
        Developing vocabulary
        Journaling

Grade Guidelines:
        40%    Daily Work (Participation in Literary Discussions, Homework,
                                       Class Assignments, Journaling and Quizzes)
        60%    Major Grades (Tests, Compositions, and Projects)

Grades for this class will come mainly from reading comprehension questions, written compositions, class discussions, reading/writing response activities. Please note that students are required to participate in literature discussions and to complete journal entries. In addition, having an agenda everyday is a vital part of the organizational skills that lead to success.
