The Staff at Robbins Academy
Ms. Wallock - English
Carolyn Wallock, a native of Corpus Christi, is both the lead teacher and the English teacher at Robbins. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, completed her Master's degree in Education from Texas State University and has been teaching since 1989. Ms. Wallock was named the New Braunfels Elementary Teacher of the Year during her time at Memorial Elementary. She then moved on to New Braunfels High School, and this is her third year at Robbins Academy where she handles the day to day operation of the school in addition to teaching English I, II, III, and IV.
Ms. Wallock has two children. Son Matt is married and lives in Dallas and daughter Whitney is married and lives in San Antonio where she is also a teacher and the mother of Ms. Wallock's pride and joy, Wesley, who is two years old.
Ms. Ehlers - Social Studies
Cathy Ehlers grew up in Boerne and Seguin. She attended Southwestern University in Georgetown and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Social Studies composite degree. She has been teaching for 24 years. Ms. Ehlers taught 8th grade American History and 9th grade World Geography before beginning her career in non-traditional education where she has taught all the high school Social Studies for ten years. She was named the Seguin Secondary Teacher of the Year before coming to Robbins where she is in her second year.
Ms. Ehlers has one daughter, Jordan, a graduate of Texas A&M University, who is married and a realtor in Lake McQueeney.
Mr. Coleman - Electives
Dan Coleman is from Indiana where he graduated with a degree in Economics from Indiana University. Before coming to Robbins in 2005, Mr. Coleman taught in both the Southwest and North East school districts. In 2007, he retired from coaching after ten years as a head tennis coach and he is currently participating in the ESC Region 20 Administrator Certification Program. This is his third year at Robbins where he teaches Health, Speech, Physical Education and Technology. In addition, Mr. Coleman, who earned his MBA from UTSA, teaches Economics as an adjunct professor at Incarnate Word University.
Mr. Coleman is married and has two children.
Mr. Sain - Math
Bill Sain is from San Antonio where he graduated from St. Mary's University with a BBA in Financial Management. In 1998, he received his teacher certification from UTSA and taught Math at Hobby Middle School for two years. Mr. Sain then transferred to Alamo Heights High School and Robbins Academy where he has been for the past eight years. He presently teaches Algebra I and II, Geometry and Math Models.
Mr. Sain is married and has four children. Jake is a musician in New York City, Tillie recently graduated from New York University, Atticus is a freshman at UTSA, and Sam is a junior at Alamo Heights High School.
Mr. Summar - Science
Nathan Summar was born in Houston but moved to San Antonio as a young boy. He attended St. Mary's University where he graduated with a degree in Geology. Mr. Summar has 29 years of teaching experience including 22 years at Southside Middle School and four years at Clemens High School. This is his first year at Robbins Academy where he teaches all of the Science classes including IPC, Biology and Chemistry. In addition, Mr. Summar has begun and maintains a garden at Robbins where he grows organic vegetables for students and staff.
Mr. Summar has been caving for 45 years and he has a wide range of interests including photography and Oriental medicine.
Larry Oxford - Spanish
Larry Oxford is a San Antonio native and an Alamo Heights High School graduate. He holds degrees from Yale University, the University of Texas at Austin School of Law , and the London School of Economics. Mr. Oxford began his career at AHHS as the head tennis coach. His players won ten state championships, and he was named the Texas High School Tennis Coach of the Year. He then practiced commercial real estate law in San Antonio until 2000, when he became the director of the new twelve court Alamo Heights Tennis Center, a position he still holds today. Mr. Oxford has taught pre-AP World Geography at AHHS and is presently teaching Spanish at Robbins. In addition, he has returned to coaching this year as the head tennis coach at AHHS.
Carol Ackles - Art
Carol Ackles is from New York state and has been with Alamo Heights High School since 1978. She graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Art Education and then completed her Master's degree at Incarnate Word University. Mrs. Ackles has received numerous awards including Alamo Heights Teacher of the Year and the University of Texas Outstanding High School Teachers Excellence Award. In addition, she operates her own fine arts studio for those seeking private instruction in art, architectural ceramics, and pottery.
Mrs. Ackles is married and has five children and five grandchildren. When not teaching art, she and husband Ron spend time in Skaneateles, New York where they are restoring a home that has been in the family since 1879.
Roberta Jacobson - AHISD Transition Coordinator
Roberta Jacobson is a native San Antonian and a graduate of both Lee High School and Trinity University. She received a Masters in Human Resources from Webster University in Missouri. Her entire teaching career has been spent in San Antonio at the San Antonio ISD, Northeast ISD, and finally Alamo Heights ISD for a combined 23 years of experience. Mrs. Jacobson is currently the AHISD transition coordinator and as such provides consult and support to staff and educational, employment, and career information to students. She is "on call" at Robbins Academy for conferencing with and motivating the students to be the best they can be both in and out of the classroom.
Mrs. Jacobson is married and has two daughters. Jordan is a graduate of AHHS and is presently attending Arizona State University. Kirsten is a 6th grader at AHJS.
