Ben Silvermintz is in his first year of teaching at Alamo Heights Junior School. A recent graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Silvermintz was a four-year member of the UT Concert Chorale, and performed as a member of that ensemble at the Southwest Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in 2006. In addition, Mr. Silvermintz was a five-year member of the Texas Longhorn Band, with whom he performed at football games across the state and nation, and a two-year member of the UT Basketball Band. While at UT, Mr. Silvermintz studied conducting with Dr. Suzanne Pence, music education with Drs. Robert Duke, Hunter
March, and Judith Jellison, and voice with Professor Leonard Johnson. He completed his student teaching under the supervision of Sheryl Jones at Austin ISD's James Bowie High School. A 2002 graduate of Parkway Central High School in Chesterfield, Missouri, Mr. Silvermintz performed in the award-winning Parkway Central Concert Choir at the 2002 Missouri Music Educators Association Convention and competed as a member of the Pizzazz Swing Choir in contests throughout the state under the direction of Claude Westfall and Kenneth Jeffs. A two-time member of the Missouri All-State Choir, Mr. Silvermintz also served as drum major of the Parkway Central Marching Colts during his senior year of high school. Mr. Silvermintz holds affiliations with TMEA, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and serves as a platoon leader in the U.S. Army Reserve. |
